Ty McMillan at the Spartan Race

Obstacle course racing is part of Ty McMillan's Dad Bod WOD fitness journey. These photos show Ty at Spartan races in the mountains and at outdoor fitness events.

On the Spartan course

A Spartan race is an obstacle course race: running mixed with carries, crawls, climbs and other obstacles, often on mountain terrain. In these photos Ty carries a plate, crawls under the barbed wire and takes on a mountain course.

Outdoor fitness events

Ty also competes at outdoor fitness events with rope climbs, runs with a ball and medicine ball throws, the same kind of functional movements he trains in CrossFit-style workouts.

How the training carries over

Obstacle races reward the things CrossFit-style training builds: carrying, pulling, crawling, climbing and conditioning, all mixed together. As a CrossFit Level 1 trainer and a B3 BFR certified coach, Ty trains those basics and scales them to real life as a busy dad.
